If you’ve ever visited Holland Village, you’d recognise Thambi Magazine. The iconic old-school magazine store is known for being one of the only newsstands left in Singapore, but did you know that it also houses a hidden little cafe?
The next time you’re in the area, look out for Caffeine Xpress, a to-go kiosk that serves affordable coffee and cakes — tucked away in the familiar magazine store.
A must-try item on the menu is the Dalgona Latte (S$6). Remember the dalgona coffee craze when the Covid-19 circuit breaker first started? Well, this humble takeaway kiosk has mastered the recipe — and then added their own spin to it.
The drink comes with triple espresso poured over bits of bittersweet honeycomb, which adds a unique flavour to the fragrant coffee without being overly sweet. Give it a shot and see how it compares to the dalgona drink that everyone struggled to whisk up at home.
The cafe uses beans from local brand Six Four Coffee, and for freshly brewed coffee, their prices are relatively affordable. An Espresso is priced at S$3, while a Latte costs S$4 for 8oz, and S$5.50 for 12oz or an iced drink.
If you’re not a coffee person, the cafe also serves Matcha (S$4 for 8oz, S$5.50 for 12oz and iced) and Chocolate (S$4 for 8oz, S$5.50 for 12oz and iced). There’s also the option of replacing the coffee in your Dalgona Latte with chocolate if you prefer a non-caffeinated version of the drink.
And if you’re looking for a sweet treat to go with your drink, the cafe has a rotating menu of cakes and desserts available, including the Matcha Cheesecake (S$6), Blueberry Cheesecake (S$6), and Lemon Meringue Pie (S$4.50).
