When it comes to matcha, have your faith in us, as we know the best spots.
From Studio Frond to Açaí Teahouse, we’ve embarked and tried matcha of all kinds. So it’s no surprise that we’re sharing another hushed matcha spot that you should check out!
Upper Thomson, or to be more precise—Sin Ming Road, is home to the cosy cafe with the bright blue signboard that reads Cheeky. In the past year, the cafe has rolled out tantalising localised bakes that have stolen the show.
Luckily for us, they’re more well-known for their drinks instead, especially their Spanner series. It’s a type of cream that originated in Vienna, Italy, and trended in Seoul, South Korea, where it’s inspired by the classic Einspanner.
Some of the regulars’ favourites are Chaspanner (S$9), Genmai-spanner (S$7.50), Choc-spanner (S$8.50), and more.
Not a big fan of cream? Cheeky also offers regular Matcha Latte (S$7.5) and Genmaicha Latte (S$6) drinks available for you as well.
And if you’re not in a mood for matcha, fret not, as Cheeky also has Cold Brew Tea (S$6.5) or River Salt Chocolate (S$7/S$8) drinks for you instead.
To enjoy your drinks cold, it’ll be an additional top-up of S$1 for all drinks on the menu.
Pair your drink with one of their scrumptious sandwiches—especially the Otah Pei Ya Som, packed with banana-leaf otah, mesclun greens, double cheese and crunchy toasted bread.
Their seasonal bakes change often, so you’ll know what’s available when you’re there. Based on previous menus, we fell in love with the Oolong Sea Salt Caramel Tart (S$5.90).
Another one of our favourite limited-time items was the Homemade Lemon Curd & Kaya Donut, a tribute in celebration of Singapore’s 60th birthday earlier this year.
Regulars swear by their chiffon bakes, especially flavours such as Banana Latte Chiffon and Earl Grey Chiffon. Prices aren’t available online, but it’ll be best to visit the cafe and be in for a surprising treat.
Cheeky is open from Wednesdays to Fridays from 8am to 4.30pm and on weekends from 9am to 5pm.
Unfortunately, they’re closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so make sure to plan ahead!
Last orders also end 15 minutes before closing, so don’t cut it too close if you want your matcha fix and some bakes.
