You can get authentic Japanese sandos with crispy tonkatsu, A5 wagyu & shrimp cutlet at this takeaway kiosk in Takashimaya

Though not as trendy as they used to be, Japanese-style sandwiches, or sandos, are still incredibly popular in Singapore. After all, they’re filling, aesthetically pleasing, and can be easily consumed on the go.

If you’re the sort who can always count on a good sando to tide you through the day, Ebisu Sando Kyoto is a takeaway kiosk in Basement 2 of Takashimaya worth popping by.

This is not the brand’s first time in Singapore — they previously operated as a pop-up stall as part of a seasonal Japanese fair — and it looks like the sandos they specialise in were well-received!

There are two types of sandos to choose from, with the first being “hot” options that are freshly made to order, requiring a waiting time of around 5 minutes.

Take your pick from the Chicken Cutlet Sando (S$13.80), Japanese Wagyu Minced Beef Cutlet Sando (S$18.50), or the staple Ebisu Pork Cutlet Sando (S$16), which sees breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet with tonkatsu sauce and shredded cabbage on white bread. Can’t go wrong with that!

Non-meat eaters are not left out, as they can choose between the Shrimp Cutlet Sando (S$13), Fish Fry Sando (S$16), and of course, the classic Japanese Egg Omelette Sando (S$12.80).

The priciest option of the lot is the A5 Japanese Wagyu Karubi Roast Beef Sando, which will set you back a hefty S$28 (or S$25, if you purchase two).

If you’d like to make it an extra substantial meal, you get the option of pairing your sando of choice with a Soup of the Day (S$3.80) for an additional S$3. Keep an eye out for Corn, Mushroom, Curry, or a creamy, seafood-based Omar Bisque — depending on when you visit.

If you’re in a rush, there are cold ready-made sandos available in the display counter, which include the likes of Teriyaki Chicken & Vegetable (S$6.50), at way more affordable prices.

Eager to get a taste of these sandos? A taste of Kyoto awaits!

PS. why not get your hands on the popular Japanese sandwich cookies from Press Butter Sand while you’re at it?
