Although we can visit Johor Bahru for supper practically anytime, I still constantly keep a lookout for new lok lok spots that sprout up in Singapore.

If you’re looking to eat your way around Upper Thomson (foodie heaven!) and satisfy your cravings for Malaysian-style lok lok without having to travel across the causeway, Kati Lok Lok is the place to be.

The eatery has another outlet at Vision Exchange in Jurong East, but this one, which opened in early December 2022 at the Wah & Steven’s Corner coffeeshop along Upper Thomson, is definitely a lot more accessible.

Moving on to the stars of the show, there are over 30 different types of deep-fried lok lok to choose from, which include the likes of broccoli, eggplant, fried beancurd skin, quail eggs, prawns, and many more.

All skewers, which are colour-coded, come at three price points: Plain (S$1), Green (S$1.50), and Red (S$2).

Pair your skewers with a selection of sauces, from sweet Thai chilli sauce to an extremely moreish satay sauce, the stall’s signature.

What makes Kati Lok Lok different is its a la carte menu, which features Malaysian-inspired dishes like Braised Pork Rice (S$5.30) and Nasi Lemak Kampong (S$4.80) with an unassumingly shiok sambal.

Not to be missed is the popular Ipoh-style Curry Chee Cheong Fun (S$4), which boasts silky rice noodles in a rich, slurp-worthy curry gravy that’s sure to hit the spot.

Prata, onigiri, burgers, fried chicken, old-school cakes, and now lok lok — what can you not find in Upper Thomson?
