When was the last time you visited Science Centre?

Was it years ago, during a school learning journey, or perhaps even recently, for an exhibition or escape room?

If you’ve already been there, done that, you might be happy to know that a new Science Centre is slated to open around end-2027 (the year of its 50th anniversary).

Not only is it set to be 25% larger than the current Centre, but it will also become a key landmark attraction of the Jurong Lake District. Good news for Westies, I guess.

Till then, here’s what you can expect at the highly anticipated attraction.

In the spirit of learning, the new KidsSTOP (or Children’s Science Centre), will be more than twice its current size, featuring interactive, hands-on exhibits and sensory areas that encourage exploration and play-based learning for children.

Youths and adults will also get to engage in dialogues on real-world issues through workshops and events — think climate change, Artificial Intelligence, and sustainability — because the learning never stops.

The popular Fire Tornado Show will undergo a revamp and be housed in its specially built chamber at the Outdoor Amphitheatre, a space open to the public.

As expected, the surrounding landscape will be filled with lush gardens (like the Eco-Garden) and curated natural trails with science exhibits.

Visitors will also get to enjoy scenic views of Jurong Lake Gardens as they stroll along the 30m-wide outdoor activity plaza linking Chinese Garden MRT station to the Jurong Lake promenade.

There are even rooftop gardens available for public booking, as well as an Observatory equipped with telescopes facing Jurong Lake — perfect for an evening of stargazing.

Can’t wait till 2027? You can visit the current Science Centre for an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience and view a physical 3D model of the new Centre. If you’d like to get an even better idea of the what the new Centre will offer, special pop-up exhibitions will be rolled up across selected public libraries at the end of the year.
