It’s been years since my 11th birthday, and still, no entrance letter from Hogwarts. For us mere muggles, I suppose the closest we can come to attending the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is through themed cafes and amusement parks.
Lucky for us, the new Platform 9 Fine Dining is a Harry Potter-themed restaurant in Johor Bahru with realistic sets and a magic show that’ll make you feel like you’re in the heart of the magical wizarding world.
Enter the restaurant and you’ll be greeted by the famous Platform 9¾. Don a Hogwarts robe and hat, and try to push the cart of books and luggage through the wall. You’ll even be given a wand to prepare you for your journey into the wizarding world before you’re led into the main dining area.
There, you’ll find even more familiar artefacts from the world of Harry Potter. Take a closer look at the Marauder’s Map, the Golden Snitch, and the Sorting Hat (which actually moves!).
There’s even a broomstick that you can try sitting on, and a Wizard Chess set if you’re up for a game.
The restaurant switches up its fine-dining menu every few months, but its current menu, which runs till September, features a delectable line-up of Thai-fusion cuisine.
Enjoy dishes such as Coconut Tomyam Seafood Abalone Soup, Smoked Duck With Hokkaido Scallop, and Thai Pandan Chicken — all while an exciting magic show leaves you in awe. Priced at S$62.90 (RM199), the fine-dining experience includes a six-course meal and wine.
If you prefer something lighter, the restaurant also has a high tea set (S$31.29, RM99), which includes a tiered tray of different pastries. Alternatively, you can pick from their ala carte menu, which has dishes from S$12 (RM38).
