Ubin Express is a ready-to-eat meal concept by New Ubin Seafood serving the iconic Heart Attack Fried Rice & more

New Ubin Seafood Group, best known for its unique zi char dishes, including the “USDA Black Angus ‘Choice’ Rib-Eye” and “Heart Attack Fried Rice”, is no stranger to Singapore’s F&B scene.

If you don’t feel like dining in a large group or planning ahead for to secure a booking at their CHIJMES and Zhongshan Park outlets, the newly launched fast dining concept along, Ubin Express, will be right up your alley.

Be it for dine-in, takeaway, or delivery, the express concept is dedicated to “Truly Singaporean ready-to-eat meals for one”. Pop by the no-frills space in City Gate and choose from a small menu of starters and mains that serves up the best of what New Ubin Seafood has to offer.

New Ubin Seafood’s signature Authentic Heart Attack Fried Rice (from S$6.50) is always worth sinning for. The iconic fried rice is cooked with beef fat and drippings, with every dark-coloured grain charred and caramelised to perfection. I could go on and on about it.

You can choose to add Grilled Chicken, Seasoned Prawns, or the extra indulgent House Smoked Pork to your plate — we highly recommend the latter.

If you’re the type to go gaga over charred (or chao ta) bee hoon, experience the wonders of wok hei with the Boss Bee Hoon (from S$7), that’s served with chilli padi, fish cake, and egg.

Don’t overlook the equally moreish Singapore Style Mee Goreng (from S$7) and Egg Fried Jasmine Rice (from S$6), best enjoyed by fans of Din Tai Fung-style fried rice.

All four mains come with the option of an additional S$1 for toppings like Tobiko, Nai Bai, Sous Vide Egg, and more.

As for the deep-fried starters, go for the Hei Chor (S$10), bite-sized nuggets of prawns with minced pork and water chestnut, or the Squid Paste Youtiao (S$10), that’s best savoured with a dollop of mayo.

Otherwise, order the quintessential zi char staple of Har Cheong Kai (S$10), or the slightly more “modernised” Luncheon Meat Fries (S$8) with sambal mayo. After all, you can always count on New Ubin Seafood to deliver flavour-packed fusion dishes.

There’s no need to go to great lengths for wok hei with Ubin Express — it’s so much easier to get my hands on a plate of Heart Attack Fried Rice now.
